Shopping Adventures in Guatemala

It was fun having a few outings to some of the marketplaces around Lake Atitlan during the week that I was there. Everything was festive, fun, colorful, and authentic!

There I am, front and center!

Alex was our guide for most of the week and he was one of the nicest, most fun people I've ever met!

Tuk Tuks are Guatemala's cab rides. I used them twice and they are fun and a little crazy to ride around in!

We went to a weaving demonstration that showed how weaving happens from beginning to end. What a beautiful art and craft it is!

We went by a school where the kids had just gotten out for the day.

Instead of umbrellas, sombreros!

Some fun earrings:

I had the very refreshing, freshly made drink below at the cafe above.

This is one of my favorite pictures because it has the umbrellas above, the Tuk Tuk driving down through the marketplace, and the surrounding scenery of the lake and volcanoes. 😍

The umbrellas were good for shade!

Frida Kahlo

I bought this keychain for myself. It's me, John, and Sam!

I got this dreamcatcher for Sam.

This was a different day in a different town. The missionaries serve and live in this town, but we weren't there for very long and I didn't see them. I would have liked to!

(I'm the fourth one in from the right. Just in case you were wondering.)

A cool tree

Owl earrings!

I bought a table runner from this lovely young woman. She made it herself.

This was a weaving project that she was working on.

We stopped for drinks at this pretty hotel with nice trees, plants, and flowers.

My strawberry lemonade was muy delicioso!

And one more little marketplace in a different town...

Some of the things I bought during my week in Guatemala:

Three pretty handwoven headbands to add to my extensive headband collection 😀

Guatemalan chocolate bars. The four on the right turned out to be old and crumbly, unfortunately! They were gifts, too. Not very good ones, it turns out!

Magnets are fun and easy souvenirs and are one of my favorite things to get when I travel.

This is the table runner I bought, but it works well as end-of-bed decor, too! It coordinated with the bedspread and lampshades in my room perfectly.

Such fine workmanship.

It's currently on my dining room table, where it works perfectly and looks so nice. This was my favorite purchase of the trip!
