I spent the last week of January on a magical trip to Guatemala! It was a yoga retreat at beautiful Lake Atitlan. I booked it last summer as a gift to myself for everything that's happened and everything I've overcome over the last several years. It was a wonderful week in a wonderful place, and I'm so glad that I did it! I really hope to go back again someday.
Hello Guatemala!
Airport
I met some of my group at the airport and the rest of them at the historic hotel we stayed at that night in the historic city of Antigua.
Courtyard fountain at the hotel. This place was once a convent!
My room
I like how it opened up right to the outside courtyard.
Look at the old walls of this place!
These were literal pigeonholes with pigeons in them!
I wish we'd had time to go to that historic yellow church that was up the street. So pretty! My hotel/the former convent was the long building on the left.
We had a delicious dinner at a local restaurant. I got authentic Spanish tacos. 😋 (This was part of our group. The others were sitting at other tables.)
I went to the ATM and got my Guatemalan money for the week.
When we got back to the hotel, the sweetest, softest, prettiest black cat followed me into my room. Apparently, it was the hotel cat. It made itself right at home and stayed with me the whole night! (Things that would never happen in America!)
I turned my belt into a cat toy and played with it.
This cat was so chill. It curled up and slept next to me the whole night!
In the morning, little Mr./Ms. Kitty was curled up so nice and cozy on this blanket that I used during the night.
This is where my room was.
Me and the iconic arch of Antigua.
After a delicious breakfast, we hopped on a bus for the ~2ish hour drive to Lake Atitlan. On the way, we stopped at the prettiest rest stop I've ever been to.
The bridge and tiered landscaping were cool!
Pretty lilies
At one more stop along the way, we saw the lake and volcanoes for the first time. Exciting!
I was really happy to be in such a beautiful place with new friends, and I was excited to get to the retreat center. I'll post about that tomorrow!
