Crazy Times Scrapbook, December 2023

Foreign Policy

"Increasingly, a lonely United States...needs the return of a sane and powerful European co-partner..."

Covid
(or Con-vid, as I like to call it at this point)

This is common sense at this stage of the game:

Well, I would at least wash my hands and stuff (which I do). It's still a virus that I'd rather not catch, along with colds, the flu, etc. But no masks or social distancing and certainly no vaccines, thank you.

Israel-Hamas

"...Jews have lived in present-day Israel for over three millennia. The longest colonialist presence there was of Muslim Turks who brutally ran the Holy Land for 300 years until they lost in WWI and were expelled."

Oh, the irony...

What happened to the Israeli women who were raped and tortured haunts me. I realize this sounds vindictive and callous and un-Christlike, but I hope their perpetrators are figuratively speaking burning in the hottest level of hell for what they did to them and to all the other innocent people they so brutally  killed.

Where are the women's rights group about this? They disappeared.
"Why have women's groups of the progressive left been silent? Because at bottom they aren't for women; they are for the team."

"Some stories don't have two sides. This is one of them."
I don't always agree with Peggy Noonan, but I 100% did in this op-ed. Her last paragraph is spot-on.

I was very interested and a little personally invested in this story since I'm an alumnus of Penn. I don't think Magill should have been president anymore after her blatant lack of support for Jewish students, not just in the hearing but in other things that have happened on campus, and I'm glad she resigned. It's not the same school any more that I went to.

Genocide requires no context.

I'm glad Claudine Gay of Harvard is out now too. Kornbluth of MIT (which, not to be snooty, isn't in the actual Ivy League) is the last one standing. I'm not sure how she's managed to hold on (maybe because she's Jewish?). I'm very disappointed that none of them took a strong, complete stance against genocide and anti-semitism.
Another news thing about Liz Magill, plus Argentina got a cool new Reaganesque/Trump-like president. I hope it does the country good (it probably will in the long run).

Presidential Election/Trump

They don't want to hear it. The powers that be never do if it's pro-Trump in any way.

Trump beats Biden in many polls

Who does she think she is?
He hasn't even been found guilty of tyrannical acts regarding January 6th. They'll do anything to get rid of him.

Miscellaneous Crazy Stuff

This is sad, and it's so bad for them. It's bad for anyone who's on social media so much.

In the words of Genie from Aladdin, hang on to your turbans, kids! I predict that 2023 was the relative calm before the storm (though it still had plenty of crazy in it) and that 2024 will be a wild ride and a turning point in the U.S. and the world.
