I was excited to turn 42 this year; it's the age I've been waiting for! 😁 I truly believe that I've been receiving signs and messages for awhile now that 42 is going to be a big turning-point in my life. We'll see what happens! It hasn't started off the best because I was supposed to finally get divorced the next day which would have been a nice way to start off my next trip around the sun, but that got pushed off again (and AGAIN since then). But it's fine, and things were definitely off to a good start that weekend on the Cape!
My birthday was on a Sunday this year so we did our eating out and other outings the day before. We ("we" being me, John, Sam, my mom, and Jennifer) went to breakfast at Pancake Man, where I love their creamy hot chocolate and fresh-squeezed orange juice. I go here just about every year for my birthday.
The French Toast was really good. I'm craving it right now!
After breakfast we found another new-to-us walking path in the woods of Yarmouth Port, where we also came across some historic structures and buildings. Walking in the woods and history: two of my favorite things, and perfect for my birthday weekend!
The boys were on their best behavior that weekend and hardly fought at all. If only I could have a birthday every weekend!
A cute little chapel
In the afternoon we went to the beach. It was a great day for it and we had fun!
We're ready for our close-up Mr. Deville!
I'm so white. 😆
I spotted this amazing Clue beach towel and I want it!
Here's John slurping a frozen lemonade.
Last selfies at the age of 41!
41 was a pretty good year overall despite the hard and stressful things that were still happening with the divorce. At any rate, it was much better than the horror show that 40 was!
So long, 41.
Sam 😂
We went out to a nice dinner that evening at Yarmouth House, where I got the absolutely delicious Chicken Atlantis that features some of my favorite foods--chicken, lobster, mushrooms, asparagus, scallops, and shallots. 😋 And it was a very fitting meal, too--look at the price! 😄
Jennifer enjoyed her feast of lazy man's lobster and her very own bottle of sparkling water! We ladies like to treat ourselves every once in awhile. We deserve it!
That evening I played ping-pong with Sam. It was Sam who finally taught me how to serve correctly. He's still better than I am at ping-pong, but under his tutelage, I'm gaining on him and becoming a more worthy opponent!
My birthday was on Sunday. I'm glad that age 42 started out with the Sabbath and church and the renewal of my baptismal covenants with my Savior. I know that makes me sound like a goody-two-shoes, but it shows how important the role of being a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ is in my life. It truly affects everything in the most wonderful and profound ways!
I was looking through my scripture notes that day and happened to see these ones from Proverbs 31, and I decided that this is the perfect theme for me this year, especially with everything going on in my life and in the world:
🤍🤍🤍
I looked at the clock and it was 1:42!
The "It Girl" in Ruth Ware's book was decidely not a virtuous woman! Ha ha.
I like my pretty bedroom at the Cape house. I'm so thankful to still have this house.
That evening after dinner, we went for a walk down to the beach because it's one of my favorite things to do. My mom took a picture of the boys and me that came out unexpectedly beautifully! Happy birthday to me!
Back at the house we partook of two delicious little birthday cakes and I opened my presents.
I made a good and heartfelt wish that I hope comes true this year! 🤞
I don't usually watch movies on Sundays, but we had a family movie night that night and we watched Wonder Woman, which I thought was pretty fitting for me and for the start of a new year in my life! I'm joking (kind of), but I do feel that I've become much stronger in a lot of ways over the last couple of years. I like the ways that I've changed, the ways that I've stayed the same, and who I'm becoming. I am a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ, a virtuous woman, and a wonder woman in my own way. I'm excited to be 42 and to see what the year brings into my life! (With a big hard knock on wood so as not to jinx it because despite my faith, I'm still a little superstitious! 😄)
