Three years ago, in April 2012, we spent a fun and meaningful weekend in Kansas City, Missouri with our close friends from church the Fishers (who sadly ended up moving to Utah a year later. We are still mourning the loss of the Fishers!). I don't know why I never blogged about this--I intended to and the file folder of photos has been sitting on the computer for years. So now I'm finally giving that special weekend the recognition it deserves!
The reason we drove four hours south to Kansas City was to attend the Open House of the brand-new Kansas City Missouri temple before it was dedicated. It was a great opportunity for the kids to see the inside of a temple. We also got to see some of the very special Church sites in the area.
Before we went to the Open House we spent some time in downtown Kansas City. It's a really cool city and we need to go back and explore it better.
John and his best friend Jacob and Jacob's sweet sister Emma.
Blue fountain water!
A blue family picture.
I thought it was pretty awesome that the color of our clothes coordinated well with the water.
This is one of my favorite family pictures of us, ever!
The temple was beautiful, inside and out.

We also went to Liberty Jail that day. I don't have any pictures to prove it, but we were there! It's where the prophet Joseph Smith was once imprisoned. It's a special place and the Church has done a very good job of preserving it.
The next day, we went to the temple site in Far West. It was neat to think of Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, and the other church leaders and pioneers being there so many years before. They had such faith!
Then we went to the Valley of Adam-ondi-Ahman, which we as Latter-day Saints believe is a very significant place in the history and future of the world. It was really neat to see it for the first time.
This was the pretty scenery as we walked down the path to the bluff overlooking the valley.
The valley.
We had to take some family pictures with such a special place in the background.
The boys are cute in this one.
I guess I really liked taking pictures of 2-1/2 year-old Sam walking on the paths that day!
The springtime flowers were blooming and pretty.
It is a beautiful, peaceful place. I loved being there.
It was a wonderful weekend in Kansas City and Missouri. We need to go back!
